Capital Area Service Committee
The Capital Area Service Committee (C.A.S.C.)
is the combined district meeting of Districts 10, 11, 14, 15, and 16 of the Area
27 (Louisiana) of Alcoholics Anonymous. C.A.S.C. is made up of the General
Service Representatives (GSR's) or their alternates,
District Committee Members (DCM's) and their
alternates and Chairpersons of standing committees established by CASC.
The stated purpose of C.A.S.C. is to hold regular
monthly meetings in an effort to:
CASC meets the 1st Tuesday of each month at 6:30 PM @
Club 12 (1695 Beaumont Drive in Baton Rouge).
Here are some of the committees and tasks they are undertaking:
The Capital Area Service Committee formed a workshop
committee to provide a format for featuring some aspect of the AA program
(unity, service and recovery) to members of Alcoholics Anonymous in the Baton
Rouge metropolitan area. Workshops

Meets the 3rd Sunday of each
month at 6 p.m. in the discussion meeting room of the
Archives Committee
Archives assists with the collecting, cataloging and
storage of artifacts important to the local history of Alcoholics Anonymous.
The National Archives Conference will be held in Baton Rouge September 14-17,
2006.
Grapevine Committee
CASC funded the construction of a display board and
literature promoting the Alcoholics Anonymous newsletter known as the
Grapevine. This display is available upon request to any local meeting or
convention seeking to promote wider distribution of the Grapevine, our
"meeting in print".
Public Information (PI) Committee
The function of this committee is to let the general
public, and more importantly the alcoholic still suffering know where help is
available. Current activities include:
Cooperation with the Professional Community (CPC)
Committee
The function of this committee is to work in the
professional community (i.e., doctors, nurses, attorneys) to inform them about
Alcoholics Anonymous. The CPC Committee attends various conferences and
meetings of these professionals upon request.
The
PI/CPC Committee meets the last Thursday of each month at 6:00 PM in the AlAnon Room @ Club 12, 1695 Beaumont Dr., Baton Rouge.
Treatment and
Corrections (T & C) Committee
This
committee is responsible for starting and carrying on meetings and for
providing Big Books and other literature and information to correctional
facilities, treatment facilities, and non-profit or state run institutions.
State-run facilities are furnished some literature at no charge. Most of the
suffering alcoholics in these institutions would otherwise have no access to
the program of Alcoholics Anonymous. T & C, along with PI and CPC, staff
booths at the Red Stick Roundup, the State Convention (when in Baton Rouge) and
at non-AA events having an interest in alcoholism.
The T & C Committee meets the
2nd Thursday of each month at 6:00 PM in the AlAnon
Room @ Club 12, 1695 Beaumont Dr., Baton Rouge.
The Red Stick Round-Up Began in 1996 as the result of
the groups in CASC voting to begin a local convention. Seed money of $500 was
given to the committee by CASC and as the result of the 1994 workshop,
"AA's Golden Anniversary in Baton Rouge - 50 years of AA in the Metro
Area," enough money was raised to plan for the first Red Stick Round-Up
which was held in February of 1996.
The Red
Stick Round-Up Committee meets the 2nd Sunday of each month at 5:30 PM @
University Methodist Church, 3350 Dalrymple Dr.,
Baton Rouge.
The next
round-up is January 2007.
Central Office (COR and
COC)

The
Central Office Representatives meet the 3rd Thursday of each month at 6:30 PM @
University Methodist Church, 3350 Dalrymple Dr.,
Baton Rouge.
The
Central Office Committee meets the 2nd Monday of each month at 5:30 PM @ the AA
Central Office, 3955 Government St., Suite 5, Baton Rouge.
Meets the 1st Thursday of each month at 6:45 PM @

Meets the
3rd Sunday of each month at 5:30 PM in the discussion meeting room at the
Louisiana State Convention of Young People in
Alcoholics Anonymous (LASCYPAA)

International Convention of Young People in
Alcoholics Anonymous (ICYPAA)
To be held at the Sheraton in New Orleans June 29th
through July 2nd, 2006.
Local
ICYPAA subcommittee meets 2nd and last Tuesday of each month at 6:30
p.m. in the AlAnon Room of Club 12, 1695 Beaumont
Dr., Baton Rouge.
Other Activities
C.A.S.C. also cooperates with the State Convention Committee, the
Louisiana State Convention of Young People in Alcoholics Anonymous (LASCYPAA),
Al-Anon, and Alateen.
